Cherubim Director - Novice Choir Music Program for girls ages 5 to 7
Rose Hominick, MDiv, MRe, and BA (Honors English), was born in Nova Scotia and commenced her musical education at the age of seven. She was involved in the Halifax Schools renowned Music Program as both singer and instrumentalist over a period of 15 years, performed as soloist and choral singer, and has also studied clarinet, ukulele and guitar. As a singer she is a veteran of more than 200 weddings and special functions, has led music programs at children's camps on the East Coast, and studied in the Joseph Shore Voice Studio on the West Coast. In addition to her duties with Cherubim, Rose is a Multi-Sensory Orton-Gillingham Therapeutic Tutor. She teaches reading and writing skills to children with learning challenges, and conducts adult ESL classes.
Accompanist
Eric Hominick, BA Mus, Member of N.A.T.S. Accompanist Eric studied piano and voice at the Toronto Conservatory and received his degree from Dalhousie University, Halifax. He has served as faculty member at several colleges in the Vancouver area; singer/soloist with Vancouver Chamber Choir; and accompanist for numerous choirs, including the highly acclaimed Elektra Women’s Choir. Eric has worked with such International choral luminaries as Eric Ericsson, Tonu Kaljuste, Andrew Parrott and Helmut Rilling, and with many of Canada’s preeminent choral conductors. As accompanist he has toured western Europe, China, Australia and New Zealand; and as a singer he has visited the Baltic Republics, Russia, Ukraine, Finland, the United States and every province in Canada. A published arranger and workshop clinician, he has recorded as pianist and singer in a variety of musical genres. Also a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Mr. Hominick runs a piano and voice studio; freelances as accompanist, vocal coach, arranger and baritone soloist; has been a Broadway rehearsal and show pianist, cruise ship entertainer; and more.
Guest Director
Donna Dinsmore, MCS, MS, and BS, taught choral music in the South Carolina public school system from 1979 - 1996. There her choral groups consistently participated in national, state and local festivals and competitions, including the National Youth Choir's Carnegie Hall performances in 1992 and 1994 with John Rutter and Eph Ehly. Donna was selected Teacher of the Year three times and was an auditioned member of the Robert Shaw Festival Chorus that performed in New York City in 1993 and 1995. Donna moved to Vancouver in 1996 to study and has made Vancouver her new home, completing a Masters Degree at Regent College and is currently teaching and consulting in the areas of spirituality, learning, worship and music.
Administrator
Lynn van Zanten has studied Music Education at UBC, has completed her DipLCM in Piano Performance and is continuing to work toward her ARCT in Piano Pedagogy. Lynn has more than 15 years experience in the Greater Vancouver choral community which started in a volunteer capacity when her daughter joined the Amadeus Children's Choir. Her volunteer work, in all facets of arts management, with the Amadeus and AcademyWestSchola Cantorum choirs, has led to her present position of Administrator for the British Columbia Girls Choir. She has also recently been appointed Executive Director for the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festivals Society.
