Benefits

"What has choir done for me? It has improved my grades in
school, given me the confidence I need for public speaking in any
setting but especially in the business world, it has taught me
professionalism so that I can rise to any challenge and do a good job
no matter how I feel."
Amber, B. Com. in Entrepreneurial Management,
Royal Roads University, 12 year choir member.

Involvement in the choir promotes specific life skills. Through volunteering and fundraising, the singer-members and their families develop a sense of community and teamwork.

The Choir's weekend camps, retreats and tours foster personal independence, respect for fellow members, group accountability, time management and nurturing friendships.

The singers are ambassadors for British Columbia and Canada.

The members' experiences with the BCGC also help prepare them for future endeavours, such as the pursuit of musical theatre, opera, vocal degrees and acceptance in most university music programmes.

Financial Benefits

Most private music lessons cost approximately $20 for a 30 minute lesson. BCGC provides quality vocal/choral instruction as well as many performance opportunities for considerably less money. For example:

  • Junior Training Choir: 5 hours of instruction each month for $50 = $10.00 per hour
  • Senior Training Choir: 8 hours of instruction each month for $71 = $8.89 per hour
  • Town Choir: 9 hours of instruction each month for $85 = $9.44 per hour
  • Touring Choir: 13 hours of instruction each month for $99.50 = $7.65 per hour
