Attend a rehearsal or audition to find out if our choir is a good fit for your family
Observe or participate in a free trial rehearsal
Depending on the time of year, we can arrange for your daughter to observe or participate in a free trial rehearsal so she can get a real feel for what weekly rehearsals are like.
Arrange an audition/vocal assessment
When rehearsals are not in session (mid-June to September), we suggest arranging an audition. Typically, auditions are in June and September, although we do hold them throughout the choral season.
For singers in grades 1 to 7: The audition is really a low-key, friendly vocal assessment. The singer will be asked to complete a basic music knowledge worksheet. The singer’s voice is assessed for its health and range. A short ear-training exercise will determine whether the singer can match pitch, repeat rhythms when clapped and identify “high” and “low”.
For singers in grades 8 to 12: The candidate should expect to sing easy scales, identify harmony notes and sing O Canada in E flat Major (starting note is the G above middle C). Previous choral and/or instrumental experience is an asset.
Expect the audition to take 30 to 45 minutes.
Parents may watch the audition if this will help the singer feel more comfortable. Typically, singers and parents know the outcome and placement the day of the audition.
Singer placement and advancement is the sole discretion of the Artistic Director.
